thanks to bitch magazine i would have never even known about this new "transformation" of characters from the older generation made in the 80s. the corporate offices want to change up the look of the old characters aka strawberry shortcake that would attract the younger audiences. they are also doing this to keep a "nostalgic" feel to it for the parents since this day and age, they are protecting their children from racey dolls that portray a lot of sexuality. i agree with the fact that parents want to shield their kids from that because we, as a people are visual beings, we take the things we see in the media and unconciously mimic the same things without knowing what the deeper meaning of them truly is. seriously, if you wanted to attract the newer generation of kids just repackage the characters differently. there is no need to give them liposuction and sex them up by putting lipstick, eyeliner, and blush on a doll.
by doing these things, making the character skinnier and putting makeup on them, you are allowing for children to do these same kinds of things, they see them on the dolls and they have a desire to look like that too. you are also allowing the child to think that being skinny is the right thing or that being thick, volumptuous, whatever you wanna call the original strawberry shortcake is wrong and that is not the way to teach the children of the future. the present is already messed up as it is with 16 & 17 year olds getting breast implants when they are not even fully developed yet.
i must say that this is truly and utterly ridiculous.
